Circle of Empowerment is a grass roots outreach community support program in Aposentillo, Nicaragua, located northwest of Chinandega. The project was started by Margaret (Meg) Boren on January 1, 2003.
Meg served as a volunteer nurse with the Lutheran Church in Nicaragua from 1999-2000 training healthcare workers in health education. She also worked with a Nicaraguan doctor to provide services to 9 villages without the amenities of electricity and water.
Her love of the Nicaraguan people drew her back to Nicaragua. In 2002, she sold her house in Wisconsin and purchased land in the Aposentillo region of the country along the Pacific Ocean.
The primary goal of the organization is to empower Nicaraguan citizens through increased knowledge of healthcare treatments and procedures and to build a strong education system for their children. Meg continues to grow the organization with new health, education and community development programs.
