This month's testimonial comes from a nurse out of Illinois, USA who traveled to serve COE with her daughter.
"Hello, my name is Debbie and I am a nurse from the Chicago area. In January 2015 I had the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua as a volunteer through Circle of Empowerment. I went without a clear vision of what would be expected of me but knew I could help where I was needed. My background for over 20+ years was in Maternal Child nursing, so I was asked to help the staff care for and educate the pregnant women in the villages. I met many women during the week and one of the highlights was to have them hear their baby’s heartbeats for the very first time with the use of a Doppler.
The week of volunteering continued, helping wherever I was needed until it was time to leave and return home. I found myself sad to leave everyone that I had come to truly care about. I was so grateful I had this opportunity, and although life gets busy, I hope to return to Nicaragua one day.
To explain what this experience meant to me is difficult to put into words and I truly feel the experience will mean something different to each individual. What I can say without a doubt is how fulfilling it was helping Circle of Empowerment!"
